Newly-wed woman found hanging, foul play suspected

Puri: A newly-wed woman was found hanging from the ceiling fan at her in-laws’ house near Chandanpur Bazar at Budhaling Village in Puri on Monday.

Getting information, Chandanpur police reached the spot, recovered her body and launched an investigation into the incident.

According to sources, police have detained the husband of the deceased along with two of his family members on the basis of a complaint lodged by the woman’s uncle at the police station.

Though the autopsy was conducted in presence of the magistrate, the reason behind the death has not been ascertained yet, police sources said.

“The woman’s body was recovered from the bedroom of her in-laws' house. A case of dowry death and murder has been registered. We have detained the husband of the deceased, the key suspect Sanjay Mahapatra along with his father and mother and are interrogating them. Further investigation is on," said Alekh Chandra Pahi, Puri DSP.
