Berhampur: Three miscreants posing as CBI officers looted gold ornaments from an elderly couple at Jayaprakash Nagar under Baidyanathpur police limits in Berhampur today. The couple had come  from Bhubaneswar to attain a marriage ceremony in the city.

According to sources, the bike-borne miscreants posing as CBI officers stopped the couple Bhaskar Patra and K. Rajkumari Patra, who were walking on the main road. Later, they suggested Rajkumari to remove the ornaments and wrap it with a paper and keep it safely inside purse.

Subsequently, on the pretext of helping, the robbers exchanged the packet and handed another packet containing sand to the couple .

By the time the couple realised that the packet was exchanged, the trio had already fled the spot.

"They stopped us showing CBI identity cards and looted ornaments from us. We tried to stop them but they quickly fled the spot," said K. Rajkumari.

"By the time I reached the spot after hearing the screams of the couple the miscreants had already gone," said an eye-witness.

Later, the couple filed a complaint in this regard at the Baidyanathpur police station.

"We have started an investigation after taking the statements of the victims into account. Efforts are on to nab the looters," said IIC (Inspector-in-Charge) of Baidyanathpur police station, Janakikant Patnaik.
