Puri: Unidentified miscreants on Monday allegedly looted the donation box of Ram temple near Dakhina Dwara (south gate) of the Puri Srimandir. The incident has also raised concerns over the security arrangements of the 12th century shrine.

As per reports, the miscreants barged into Ramchandra Mandir near the south gate of Srimandir by cutting the grill of the temple’s window. Later, they cut open the donation box kept inside the temple and also damaged some idols of the temple.

“Around Rs 10,000 to 12,000 was looted from the donation box,” claimed a servitor of the temple, Baidyanath Mohapatra.

The robbers also tried to take away the idol of Goddess Sita but failed in their attempt, he added.

Singhadwara police officials rushed to the spot after receiving information and started an investigation into the incident.

On the other hand, following the loot incident at the Ramachandra Temple, metal detector was reportedly installed at the south gate on Tuesday.

Last year, miscreants had looted cash from Malpura Ram temple in Kamakhyanagar in Dhenakanal district and also looted the donation box at Shiruli Mahabir temple at Chandanpur in Puri district.
