Sambalpur: A minor boy was held by Sambalpur Police on the charges of duping people by creating fake social media accounts in the name of ministers, MLAs and other eminent personalities.

Police sources said the accused had created fake Facebook accounts in the name of Sambalpur Collector, Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Das and deceived a lot of people in Sambalpur.

"Impersonating as MLA, Minister and other eminent personalities, the accused used to extract money and other favours from people," said Sambalpur SP Sanjeev Arora at a presser today.

Arora further informed that the accused has been booked under IPC sections 419 and 420 and section 66 (c) and 66 (d) of the IT Act. "During investigation it has been ascertained that the accused minor had also cheated several persons in Bolangir. We may take help of cyber police officials to conduct further investigation in this connection," Arora added.

The accused was nabbed based on a complaint filed by one Siddharth Saha of Dalaipada village in Sambalpur. Saha alleged that an unknown person has been cheating people by creating a fake Facebook account in his name.

It is not for the first time that the minor has been booked on the charges of fraud. He had earlier created a fake Facebook account in the name of senior BJP leader Jayanarayan Mishra and Congress leader Narasingha Mishra.

"Before the elections, the accused had also created a fake account in my name and demanded money from a person. Those who are not aware of such cyber crimes easily fall prey. Stern action should be taken against the accused," said Mishra.
