Rourkela: Fighting between neighbours over dead chickens took an ugly turn after a minor girl was beaten to death at Kumbarapada village under Hatibari Police limits of Sundergarh district last night.

According to reports, after the sudden death of the seven chickens yesterday, family members of one Roshni Dungdung had a heated argument with their neighbour Samir Dungdung. They attacked Samir suspecting that he poisoned the birds. Samir sustained a head injury following the attack and was admitted to the local hospital for treatment.

On his return to home from the hospital, Samir, with an aim to take revenge, attacked Roshni with a wooden plank leaving her seriously injured. Roshni was admitted to Rourkela government hospital in a critical condition. However, she succumbed to her injures while undergoing treatment this morning.

“After knowing that he had poisoned our poultry we asked Samir about it. Instead of accepting his fault, he started fighting with us. Later, when he found my sister alone, he attacked her with a plank,” alleged Suraj Dungdung, brother of the deceased girl.

Acting on the complaint lodged by Roshni’s family members, Hatibari Police detained Samir who has reportedly confessed to the crime.

“There was some dispute between the two families following which the accused killed the minor girl out of provocation. He has been detained and further investigation into the matter is underway,” informed Sundargarh SP, Soumya Mishra.
