Ganjam: A minor girl was killed after being allegedly forced to drink poison by her neighbour at Sorisabilla village under Sorada police limits of Ganjam district.

According to sources, the incident reportedly happened on November 1 when one Jagu Sethi of the village allegedly forced the girl to drink poison while she was cleaning utensils alone in the backyard of her house.

Hearing the distressed call of the minor, her family members rushed to the spot and immediately admitted her to Sorada Hospital. But as her health condition deteriorated, they shifted her to MKCG Medical College and Hospital. However, the minor breathed her last while under treatment at MKCG on Saturday night.

Even though the exact cause behind the incident is yet to be clarified by the police, family of the deceased have revealed that past enmity might have been the reason. Mother of the deceased said, "She was washing utensil in our backyard, when Jagu Sethi of our village forcibly fed her poison by taking advantage of absence of any senior members of our family."

Meanwhile, acting on the complaint lodged by the family members of the deceased, the police have detained Jagu Sethi and are interrogating him.
