Cuttack: Panic gripped the residents of Ranihat area after a blood-stained body of a man was recovered near Taladanda canal under Mangalabag Police limits on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Godhi Kalia, who worked as a labourer in the city.

It is suspected that Kalia was hacked to death by some unidentified miscreants on Monday. Kalia's body has been recovered with injury marks on neck and head. It was a group of local residents who informed police after spotting Kalia's body.

"Today, we found the body lying in a pool of blood and informed local police. The deceased used to eke out a living by working as a labourer in the city. Though he hails from Dhenkanal district, he was staying in Cuttack for the last 20 years," said Soumya Sundar, a local resident.

The exact reason behind the brutal murder is still unclear and Mangalabag Police has started a probe into the matter.

"The man was working as a labourer in the city. We have sent his body for post mortem and started a probe," said Cuttack DCP, Akhileswar Singh.
