Kendrapara: Police on Friday arrested a youth for allegedly hacking his mother to death with a sharp weapon over family dispute at Dumuka village under Derabish tehsil of the district. The deceased woman has been identified as Tulasi.

According to reports, Tulasi’s daughter had left her husband’s house and had been staying at her maternal house in Dumuka which often triggered tension in the family.

On Friday, a verbal duel ensued between Tulasi and her son Kamalakant following which he attacked his mother with a sharp weapon on her head.

Critically injured Tulasi was rescued by neighbours and was rushed to a nearby hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Patkura police station Inspector-in-charge (IIC), Sudhir Kumar Sahu said Kamlakanta was not in good terms with her sister and didn’t want her to stay in their house so he often quarrelled with the family members.

"Initially we were informed that  Tulasi had died after slipping off the stairs, however, investigation revealed that she was killed by her son,” said Sahu.

"We have arrested the accused and will forward him to court," he added.
