Jharsuguda: A man was arrested on Saturday on the charges of beating his mother to death and attacking his father with a bat at Rangiatikra village under Laikera police station in Jharsuguda district over some family feud on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Ashamati Kusum.

The accused Lukeswara Kusum is now being interrogated by the Laikera Police in connection with the shocking incident.

Sources said Lukeswara and his wife were not in good terms and living separately for the past few days. Holding his mother Ashamati responsible for the dispute, Lukeswara thrashed her with a bat. When Lukeswara’s father tried to stop him, he attacked him too and fled the spot.

Later, locals rushed to the spot after hearing the screams of the couple and admitted them to VIMSAR in Burla. Ashamati succumbed to her injuries while her husband, who has also sustained injuries in the attack, is undergoing treatment at the hospital.

“Based on the complaint of Ashamati’s son-in-law Chintamani Mahananda, we have arrested Lukeswara. The accused works as a labourer and was not in good terms with wife. When his parents tried to resolve the issue and talk to Lukeswara, he hit his mother with a cricket bat and a brick on her head,” informed IIC of Laikera police station, Biswapati Panda.
