Dhenkanal: A man allegedly hacked his brother-in-law with a sharp weapon over some family dispute at Bidyabandha village under Sadar police limits here on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Nagesh Rout. The accused Duryadhan Biswal is absconding after the incident.

According to reports, accused Biswal's wife and mother-in-law also sustained critical injuries during the attack. The duo was rushed to Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) and their condition is said to be critical.

Sources said Biswal and his in-laws were not in good terms owing to some past family dispute. The incident occurred when Biswal had visited his in-laws house for 'Dola Jatra'. According to reports, Biswal attacked his brother-in-law in a fit of rage on Saturday night.

"He was staying in our home for the past one week. We have no clue about him (Biswal) attacking Nagesh. After killing Nagesh, he attacked us," said Biswal's mother-in-law, Khulana Rout.

Later, police reached the spot and initiated a probe into the mater.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the crime appears to be a revenge murder. We are further carrying out probe into the matter to ascertain more facts," said Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) of Sadar Police Station, Malaya Nayak.
