Keonjhar: Two youths have been arrested by the Sadar police today for mercilessly thrashing an elderly man to death over irrigation of a farmland at Kunjardiha village in Keonjhar district on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Suniya Behera while the accused duo has been identified as Samara Munda and Toyi Munda.

According to reports, Suniya was irrigating his land with the help of a water pump. With no alternative way to bring the pipe connected to the pump to his agricultural land, he drew it through Samara’s farmland.

In the meantime, a cow entered Samara’s land and ate up the standing crop. Later, Samara held Suniya responsible for the incident leading to an altercation between the two.

Samara, in a fit of rage called his associate Toya and they both attacked Suniya to death.

“After getting information, I reached the farmland to find my father in a pool of blood. Later, I lodged an FIR at the Sadar police station following which the two were arrested,” informed Suniya’s son, Kuna Behera.
