Baripada: Police on Monday night arrested a man on charges of impersonating an IAS officer and marrying a woman at Damodarpur village under Khunta block in Mayurbhanj district.

The accused identified as Rajat Panda of Tihidi area in Bhadrak district faked himself as IAS officer Lingaraj Panda posted in Sambalpur district and married the woman- an ASHA worker about 15 days back.

After the marriage, Panda went to Bhadrak for a brief period and returned to his in-laws house at Damodarpur last week.

During his stay in the village, complaints against Panda were lodged at the Khunta police station for allegedly duping people of money with promises of providing jobs.

Based on the complaints, Khunta police initiated an investigation into the matter and arrested Panda yesterday night. Meanwhile it is alleged that Panda is married to another woman in Bhubaneswar. The accused was earlier arrested in 2014-15 for his links in the Seashore chit fund case.
