Kendrapara: One person was injured when unidentified miscreants attacked him with swords during a robbery attempt near Alabanka on National Highway here on Tuesday.

The injured has been identified as Baishnab Panda of Jajhanga village who works at a variety store in Kendrapara.

According to reports, the incident took place at around 10.30 pm yesterday when Baishnab along with his store owner was returning home in a two-wheeler when they were intercepted by three miscreants near Alabanka and asked to part with the money and other valuables they possessed.

Sources said they even fired three rounds at Baishnab and his shop owner but missed hitting them by a whisker.

After they failed to rob the duo, they attacked and stabbed Baishnab with sharp weapons before fleeing the spot. Critically injured, he was rushed to SCB Medical in Cuttack for treatment. His condition is stated to be stable.

“Baishnab has been stabbed by some miscreants when he was returning home yesterday night. There are multiple knife injuries on his body. We have registered a case and further investigation into the incident is on,” said Kendrapara SP Dayanidhi Gocchhayat.

“While Baishnab has also alleged he was fired at by the miscreants, it is yet to be confirmed. But the injury marks clearly indicate that he was stabbed,” added SP.
