Balasore: Jaleswar Police on Friday arrested a person on the charges of stealing motorbikes from various busy junctions in Balasore district and disposing them in West Bengal. The accused has been identified as Chandramohan Das of Takatpur area in the district.

Acting on a tipoff, a five-member team of Jaleswar Police led by IIC Pradeep Kumar Majhi caught Das red-handed while he was trying to sell a motorcycle in West Bengal. The bike was stolen from Basta area in Balasore.

Later, police recovered nine more motorcycles sold by Das in Dantanarea in West Bengal.

"During interrogation, the accused confessed to have lifted motorcycles from Basta, Rupsa and other areas in Balasore district. We also expect the recovery of more vehicles. Further investigation is on," informed Majhi.

Majhi further informed that efforts are on to ascertain the involvement of other persons in the bike lifting racket.

Earlier in 2018, Sahadevkhunta police had arrested Das in connection with three cases and recovered 26 stolen bikes from his possession.
