Govindpur Police foils bank dacoity bid, 6 criminals held

Cuttack:  Prompt action on the part of Govindpur Police thwarted a bank dacoity bid by an inter-district robbery gang as the cops managed to nab six members of the group. The breakthrough came after a police team raided an isolated place after a tip-off regarding the presence of some anti-socials.

Senior police officials said, the criminals, after seeing the police team fired shots and also lobbed a crude bomb. Two police personnel suffered minor injuries in the attack. However, the police team retaliated and managed to nab six criminals while two others managed to escape from the spot. One 9mm pistol, one live bullet, sharp weapons, two mobile phones and Rs 1,450 cash have been recovered from their possession.

Senior police officials said a route map to Indian Bank branch at Bramhansailo was also recovered from the possession of the criminals. It is suspected that the criminals were planning for a robbery at the bank while further investigation in this connection is on.
