Girl raped & left unconscious musters courage to file FIR, accused nabbed

Phulbani: Police today arrested a youth for allegedly raping a girl on the Sarangad High School hostel premises in Kandhamal district on Saturday evening. The incident came to light after the rape survivor and family members lodged an FIR at Sarangad police station yesterday.
The accused has been identified as Achyutananda Sahoo of PurunaSahi, Sarangad village.

According to reports, the girl, a student of Plus III, along with her friends had gone to a nearby village for Raja celebrations on Friday when the accused asked her to accompany him. However, the girl refused and went to stay at her friend’s house in nearby Salaguda village overnight.

Sahoo hatched a plan and sent an auto-rickshaw to Salaguda village the next morning and asked the driver to say that he has been sent by her parents to take her back home.

Unaware of the conspiracy, the girl boarded the auto-rickshaw and left till she saw Sahoo approaching her near the Sarangad High School and once again asking her to accompany him. Panicked, the girl ran towards a hostel, adjacent to the school but Sahoo overpowered and raped her within the hostel premises. Later, he fled the spot leaving the girl in an unconscious state.

“Based on the complaint, Sarangad police nabbed Sahoo. He has been sent for medical examination and will be court forwarded later,” informed SDPO of G.Udaygiri, Amaresh Kumar Panigrahi.
