Girl arrested on charges of blackmailing & abetting suicide of 'lover'

Nuapada: Police have arrested a girl on charges of blackmailing and abetting suicide of a youth in Nuapada. According to police, the youth, a resident of Khariar area, was in a relationship with the accused, who is a resident of Bolangir district.

According to the police, the girl used to harass and blackmail the youth by demanding expensive items from him. Recently, she had pressurised the youth to gift her an iPhone and even threatened to end their relationship if her demand was not fulfilled.

Kailash Chandra Sethi, IIC of Khariar Police Station, said, “The boy was in a relationship with the girl who had been blackmailing him. She had demanded an iPhone as gift, but when the boy was unable to fulfill her demands, the accused threatened to end their relationship. Earlier too, she had threatened the youth on multiple occasions.”

“During the course of investigation into the alleged suicide of the boy over his relationship with the girl, we seized his phone. When we went through the WhatsApp chats between the duo we came to learn that the girl had been threatening the boy to get expensive things,” Sethi added.

The IIC further said that the girl was arrested after police got several vital evidences against her. A case was later registered against the girl under Section 306 and 201 of the IPC. She will be forwarded to the court after her health examination gets over, informed Sethi.
