Four men sentenced to 20 years jail for raping widow in Ganjam

Ganjam: Chatrapur Additional District Judge Sikha Rani Rath on Wednesday sentenced four men to 20 years of imprisonment in a 2013 rape case of a widow.

As per reports, the woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by four persons including an auto-rickshaw driver under Purushottampur police limits in Ganjam district in the year 2013.

Based on the evidences, the Additional District Judge awarded the jail term and alsoimposed Rs 30,000 fine on them.

According to police, the auto-rickshaw driver had offered to take her to Tara Tarini Temple in Purushottampur area. However, three of his friends forcibly took the woman to an isolated place midway and raped her.

Though the auto-rickshaw driver did not rape the woman, he was booked for his involvement in the crime, sources said.

The woman had narrated her ordeal to her family members, following which a case was filed.
