Berhampur: An engineering student was arrested on Saturday for fraudulently transferring money from the bank accounts of a woman in Berhampur. The accused has been identified as Sunil Tripathy, a resident of Arabinda Nagar under Baidyanathpur police limits here.

According to reports, Tripathy is studying at an engineering college in Cuttack.

The victim on December 15 last year had lodged an FIR with Berhampur Town Police Station alleging illegal withdrawal of money from her two bank accounts.

During investigation, police found that Tripathy, with the help of a relative of the woman, fraudulently obtained her ATM card details and later transferred nearly Rs 68,000 to his own Paytm wallet.

“The accused has confessed to have committed the fraud and he has been produced before court. Further investigation is on to ascertain the involvement of other persons in the case," informed Berhampur Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shantanu Das.

Das further advised people not to share the confidential details of their accounts to anyone and manage it responsibly.
