Elderly woman killed after loot in Berhampur

Berhampur: In yet another incident of crime against senior citizens, an elderly woman was killed by unidentified miscreants in a broad daylight robbery at Jemadeipentha under Badabazar police limits in Berhampur on Friday.

The deceased identified as Jambubati Sahu was reportedly alone when armed miscreants barged into her house yesterday.

"We suspect the involvement of some known persons in the incident as they were aware of every details of the movement of other family members," said deceased Jambubati's grandson, Shankarshan Choudhury.

Choudhury further said that the miscreants have looted nearly Rs 3 to 4 lakh from the house along with a gold chain that his grandmother was wearing.

Getting information, senior police officials along with a forensic team started a probe after visiting the spot.

"We have started a probe basing on the statements of family members who claim that some gold ornaments and cash has been looted," said a senior police official.
