Dreaded criminal Javed Akhtar nabbed after police encounter

Koraput: Continuing its crackdown on anti-social elements, Jeypore police arrested hardcore criminal SK Javed Akhtar after an encounter near Irrigation colony in Jeypore town late Thursday night.

According to sources, Jeypore Town police had intensified patrolling to nab anti-socials in the region after after receiving an input about movement of Akhtar and his associates in the locality.

Finding cops on the spot, Akhtar and his associates opened fire with a country-made pistol; however, police retaliated and managed to nab Akhtar while the two others gave the cops a miss.

As per reports, several criminal including murder cases are pending against Akhtar in Jeypore police station. Besides, police sources claimed that Akhtar was involved in several others kidnapping and hijacking cases.

“Akhtar was one of the most wanted criminals; he once fled from the court too. The other two anti-socials managed to flee the spot even though we chased them,” said Baleswar Gidhi, IIC of Jeypore police station.

Meanwhile, the police have seized one country- made pistol, two live bullets and a mobile phone from Akhtar’s possession.
