Dreaded criminal injured in police encounter

Kendrapara: Dreaded criminal Santosh Mallick on Sunday was injured in a police encounter near Derabis road in Deshapur area of the district.

Mallick, who sustained a bullet injury during exchange of fire with police,  has been admitted to hospital in a critical condition.

Acting on a tip off, a team of Derabis police and special squad intercepted Mallick near Derabis road but he open fired at them. Police personnel retaliated and a bullet hit him on his right knee.

More than 60 cases are reportedly pending against Mallick at different police stations in the district.
