Dreaded criminal injured during encounter with police in Kendrapara

Kendrapara: A notorious criminal suffered bullet injuries on his leg during an encounter with police near Tikhiri-Boudha office road under Marshaghai police limits in Kendrapara district early Monday morning.

The criminal identified as Debiprasad Das alia Litu was initially admitted to Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

Sources said police were searching for Litu for his alleged involvement in a firing case at a house under Dhaniapada police limits in the district.

Acting on a tip-off about the movement of Litu in the area, a joint team of special squad and Marshaghai police intercepted the accused near Boudha office where he open fired at the officials.

Later, the police team fired back in retaliation injuring Litu on his right leg and subsequently arrested him. Police have also seized a motorcycle and a gun from his possession.

Several criminal cases including extortion, robbery, murder, bombing, tender fixing are also pending against Litu in Kendrapara, Jajpur and Jagatsinghpur police stations.
