Bhubaneswar: The cyber crime help desk of the Commissionerate Police has successfully recovered Rs 1.3 lakh which was swindled by fraudsters from the bank accounts of two persons in Bhubaneswar.
As per reports, the fraudsters had withdrawn Rs 70,090 from the bank accounts of one Debashish Mallick, who works as a supplier of various goods.
While surfing the internet for Lenovo Service Centre, Debashish found two mobile numbers on February 26. Later, the fraudsters pretending to be the representatives of the company asked Debasish to install Anydesk, a remote access App.
Without knowing that it was a trap, Debashish followed the instructions and downloaded the App and made some payments via Google Pay. Subsequently, the fraudsters took access of his Smartphone and made two transactions amounting to Rs 70,090 by obtaining his UPI Pin.
The cyber police help desk managed to recover the entire amount from the bank account of the scamsters.
In another incident, one Naresh Chandra received a call that the validity of his mobile number will be expired soon. The fraudsters impersonating as the representatives of BSNL asked him to install an App and sought ID number to pair device.
On the instructions of the fraudster, Naresh made a 10 rupee recharge without getting an idea that it was a trick of the cyber criminals to gain access of his mobile phone.
After obtaining the Internet banking username and password, the fraudsters successfully made transactions amounting to Rs 74,000 from the victim’s bank account, police said.
Due to timely intervention and action by the Cyber Crime Helpdesk, Naresh got back Rs 58,987 of the total money lost to the fraudsters.
