Criminal Nabbed, Cop Injured After Exchange Of Fire In Odisha

Sambalpur: Notorious criminal Musim Akhtar, accused in as many as 15 different cases of crimes has been caught after an encounter with police in the wee hours today.

According to sources, a special squad of the district police along with personnel from Dhanupali Police Station conducted raids near the City railway station in the outskirts of Sambalpur at around 5.20 AM after receiving input about the presence of Akhtar in the area.

In an attempt to escape arrest, Akhtar opened fire two rounds of bullets from a 9 mm pistol, but was injured after the cops backfired in retaliation. During the brief exchange of fire, a police ASI also sustained injuries.
The police also seized a pistol, a live bullet and cash Rs 4,000 from the criminal.

Injured Akhtar was admitted to Sambalpur district headquarters hospital for preliminary treatment and later taken to an unknown place for questioning.
