Couple Attacked In Nayagarh, Woman Dies

Nayagarh: In an ugly turn of events following a brawl during a community feast, a woman died after she was attacked by a youth at Bhatasahi under Odagaon Police limits in Nayagarh district late last night.

The deceased Mani Singh’s husband Nirajan, who also sustained critical injuries in the attack, is now battling for his life at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.

According to reports, Niranjan picked up a quarrel with the accused youth identified as Manoj Nayak of the same village during the feast yesterday. Niranjan allegedly pulled up Manoj for creating ruckus in an inebriated condition.

Following the incident, Niranjan along with his wife Mani returned home. Later, Manoj went to the couple’s house and first attacked Niranjan with a sharp weapon.

Mani, who sustained critical injuries while trying to resist the attack on her husband, died on the spot. Villagers subsequently rushed injured Niranjan to Nayagarh hospital and later shifted him to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar after his condition deteriorated.

Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused who is absconding following the incident.
