Bhubaneswar: Congress' candidate for Aska Assembly seat, who was shot at by four bike-borne miscreants, died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar yesterday night.
The mortal remains of Jena were brought to Congress Bhawan in a procession today and several leaders, including OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik paid their tributes.
Later, the mortal remains were sent to his native place at Nuagaon in Ganjam's Aska for cremation.
Jena was shot at by four bike-borne miscreants near Lanjipalli in Berhampur on Wednesday evening. The bike-borne miscreants opened fire at Jena and one of his associates Anil Kumar Swain and fled from the spot.
Jena was rescued and rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital and was later shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. However, Jena succumbed to injuries after undergoing treatment for two days.
Though three days have elapsed, police are yet to make any arrests.
Meanwhile, Aska Congress leaders have alleged involvement of local-BJD leader.
