Sambalpur: Four members of an inter-state car theft gang were arrested in Sambalpur today. According to sources, police recovered three vehicles from their possession which were reportedly stolen from Sambalpur.

Among the four arrested, two accused hail from Sambalpur while the other two are residents of Bihar. The accused reportedly used to change the registration number plates, engine and chassis numbers of the stolen vehicles before selling them off, sources said.

The owners of the vehicles had earlier filed complaints of theft at Town Police Station and Dhanupali Police Station.

Concerned over rising incidents of vehicle theft in the area, the Sambalpur SP had constituted an independent team to nab the culprits. Police is looking into the involvement of others, sources added.

Bhawani Shankar Udgata, SDPO, Sambalpur said "Among the arrested, two persons are from Sambalpur while the other two accused - Umesh Singh and Suresh Paswan are from Bihar. Further investigations are on to find out the involvement of others."
