Brown sugar worth Rs 8 lakh seized from Puri

Puri: Intensifying crackdown on narcotics trade in the pilgrim town, Excise officials today arrested a person on charges of possessing brown sugar worth around Rs 8 lakh at Penthakata Budanagar chhak of Puri district.

Based on a tip-off on brown sugar peddling, officials of the Excise department conducted surprise raids at some houses in the area and seized 8 gms of the contraband item valued at around Rs 8 lakh from one Ramachandra Nayak.

Official sources said Ramachandra was under scanner of the Excise department after several complaints regarding his illegal business were lodged.
