Cuttack: It seems that twin city of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar has now turned into a hub for illicit narcotics trade with spurt in several drug peddling incidents in the past couple of months. The Central Excise and Intelligence department today seized brown sugar weighing 65 grams following a raid at Badambadi area in Cuttack.

The cost of the seized narcotics substance is estimated to be around Rs 7 lakh. The brown sugar was recovered from the possession of one Ganesh Panda who has been arrested while further investigation in this connection is on.

Earlier this month, officials of the Excise department had seized 60 gms of brown sugar worth nearly Rs 6 lakh after a raid in Cuttack.

On December 10, brown sugar weighing 70 grams worth nearly Rs 10 lakh was seized from Khandagiri area in Bhubaneswar. Two drug peddlers were also arrested by the excise department officials.
