Khurda: Continuing its crackdown on illegal trade of drugs, Excise officials arrested two persons and seized 295 grams of brown sugar from their possession in the wee hours today.

The arrested persons have been identified as Rabindra Pradhan of Mathasahi and Krushna Chandra Palei of Radhamohanpur area under Khurda Town police limits.

Acting on a tip off, a joint team of Cuttack flying squad and Khurda excise department conducted simultaneous raids at Pradhan and Palei’s residence and seized a combined 295 grams of brown sugar from their possession.

"The rate of the brown sugar would be some where around Rs 29.50 lakh in the international market, informed deputy superintendent of Excise department, Shantanu Das.

Earlier on December 14, a team of Khurda excise and central Intelligence officials had seized 76 grams brown sugar worth Rs 8 lakh from house of one Sarojini Sahu house at Bhaliabadi area near New Bus Stand in Khurda.

Sources said, Sarojini Sahu is the mother-in-law of Krushna Chandra Palei who was arrested today. Further police investigation into the case is underway.
