Balasore: Continuing its crackdown on the illegal trade of drugs, the Jaleswar police today seized nearly 10 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 1.5 lakh and arrested two youths involved in the racket.

Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted a raid near Chalanti Chhak in Jaleswar and nabbed both the accused while they were smuggling the brown sugar to Bhubaneswar.

The accused have been identified as Deepak Mohapatra of Old Town in Bhubaneswar and Dhiren Mohapatra of Sakhigopal area in Puri.

“One of the accused is a resident of Bhubaneswar while the other accused belongs to Sakhigopal. Both of them were nabbed after a raid near Chalanti Chhak. A detailed investigation is on to crack the network. Other persons involved in the racket will also be nabbed soon," said a police official.

Police sources further informed that ganja and brown sugar trading has been on a rise in the area.

The district police had earlier seized ganja weighing 2 quintals from a car at Seragada toll plaza here. Two persons -including driver of the vehicle Muktikanta Nayak and his associate Rehman Khan were arrested in this connection.
