Brown Sugar Menace: 54 Arrested In 10 Days In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Intensifying its drive against brown sugar smuggling, the Commissionerate police has registered 36 cases and arrested 54 persons in last 10 days.

Besides, 224 grams of brown sugar, 54 kgs of ganja and more than one lakh rupees were seized by the cops. Several vehicles including cars and bikes were also seized during this period.

Meanwhile, residents of the capital city have started protesting illegal sale of brown sugar in their respective areas.

“While interrogating the arrested persons we come to know that they bring brown sugar to Bhubaneswar from other districts and State. However, we will further intensify our drive and conduct special drives on regular basis to check inflow of brown sugar into Bhubaneswar,” informed Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner, Satyajit Mohanty.

As per reports, smugglers are finding new methods of smuggling the contraband item in Bhubaneswar following the active drive of the city police. They have also reportedly doubled the price of brown sugar.
