Khurda: Police on Monday arrested a person for allegedly cheating a group of people to the tune of Rs 50 crore by misleading them to invest in Bitcoins, the crypto currency whose value soared in global stock markets in 2018. The accused has been identified as Sashi Bhusan Mishra.

As per allegations, Mishra had duped scores of people by luring them with high returns against their investment in Bitcoins.

“I had invested Rs 7.5 lakh and when I sought refund of my investment, he (Mishra) threatened me,” said Debasish Panda, a victim.

Another duped investor, Ashok Das alleged that, “The accused lured my son to invest over Rs 2 lakh in Bitcoins. My son had sold a plot to make the payment.”

Reportedly, Mishra was also working as an employee in the Malaria department at Khurda district headquarters hospital (DHH). He absconded after looting money from people on the pretext of investing in the cryptocurrency.

However, the duped investors caught hold of Mishra today and handed him over to Khurda police. Later, Khurda cops handed him over to Jatni Commissionerate Police.
