Puri: Amid concerns that the pilgrim city of Puri and Brahmagiri area have turned into a haven for miscreants and bike theft gangs, Puri Police today busted a bike lifting racket which was active in the area and was allegedly involved in many theft cases.

As per reports, Police have arrested eight persons and seized as many as 33 stolen motorcycles while probing into different cases filed at Town Police Station and other police stations at Puri Sea Beach, Kumbharpada, Talabania, Chandanpur, Khurda and Delang.

Central Range IG, Soumendra Priyadarshi said, "We have arrested eight persons involved in different bike theft cases."

The arrested have been identified as Dipu alias Deepak Sahoo, Toofan from Baseli Sahi, Linga alias Lingaraj Pradhan, Badal alias Rakesh Pradhan, Fellu alias Bighnesh Pradhan, Dhedia alias Sumanta Majhi, Deepak Pradhan and Anil alias Sunil Kumar Pradhan.

"We have identified almost all the bike owners after verifying the engine numbers and chassis numbers of the seized two-wheelers," Priyadarshi added.
