Baripada Sex Racket: 4 Lodge Managers Arrested, Owners Absconding
Mayurbhanj: A day after launching massive crackdown and busting a major sex racket, Mayurbhanj police on Saturday arrested four managers of three lodges on the charges of immoral trafficking. Moreover, 32 persons including 16 girls were earlier detained for questioning after they were found inside the rooms of the three lodges- Sri Krishna, Krishna and Shanti lodge in Baripada town yesterday.
According to police, three cases have been registered against owners of the lodges after several objectionable items including medicines were found inside the rooms of their establishment during the raid yesterday. Four staff, mainly the lodge managers, were arrested after a case under section 3,4,5,6,7 of Immoral Traffic Prevention Act, 1956 was registered.
The accused have been identified as Pankaj Kumar Nayak, Satyajit Marandi, Gagan Bihari Behera and Shayam Sundar Sethi.
As the lodge owners, who are absconding, are also liable as per the provision of the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act, 1956, necessary punitive legal action has been initiated against them, police said.
The raids were conducted based on allegations that sex racket was operating in a clandestine manner from several hotels and lodges in Baripada town.
The crackdown comes in the wake of similar enforcement drive launched by Balasore police. Earlier, OTV had exposed how sex trade was being allowed in several hotels in Balasore.
Moreover, a hotel staff was allegedly seen in a video striking a deal between a customer and sex worker. Later, several hotel owners and managers were arrested following a major crackdown by police.
