Bhubaneswar: Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Police Crime Branch has stumbled upon fresh information that traces the links of illegal narcotics trade to Bangladesh.

Such revelations were made after the mastermind of the brown sugar trade, Sk Fakir of Balasore was arrested in connection with the seizure of nearly 323 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 50 lakh in Bhubaneswar yesterday.

According to reports, a raid was conducted earlier yesterday at NH-16 near the back gate of Kalinga Stadium and two persons- Sk Sagba (22) of Sikharchandi area and Tanmay Sahu (20) of Balasore were arrested. During interrogation, the duo revealed to have procured the narcotics from Sk Fakir and two others- Md Suhail and SK Haibul of Balasore. Later, all the three accused were arrested and cash worth Rs 1.84 lakh, four motorcycles were seized from their possession.

Senior officials informed that brown sugar is being smuggled from Bangladesh and enters Bhubaneswar and other parts of the State via Murshidabad, Midnapore and Balasore.

The mastermind of the narcotics trade, Sk Fakir is being interrogated to elicit more information regarding the racket.
