Bhubaneswar: Police today suspended Nayapalli Assistant Sub-inspector and directed Inspector-In-Charge to submit show cause notice for dereliction in duty, just a day after police callousness and apathy leading to death of a missing minor from Salia Sahi slum came to fore.

ASI of Nayapalli Police Station, NC Swain was suspended while the IIC Suryamani Pradhan asked to show cause for negligence in dealing with urgency to trace out Ishak Digal of Salia Sahi who went missing and died following a road accident.

Sources said, the minor boy left his home after having an argument with his parents on June 8 but never returned. Even though his guardians lodged a missing complaint at Nayapalli PS on the same evening, the police reportedly did nothing to trace the young kid, Ishak. Unfortunately he was hit by a biker near Biju Patnaik College Square at around 11.30 pm the same night and was critically hurt.

Surprisingly, even though the accident spot falls under the jurisdiction of Nayapalli PS, the police had no idea about the kid who was rushed to SCB hospital where he succumbed to injuries the next day.

The worst part of the incident came after Ishak’s death. His body was present under the custody of Mangalbag police but even after 72 hours when no one turned up to claim and even Nayapalli police did not seek any information about him, he was finally cremated.

It is only on June 13 that Nayapalli police finally learnt about the case. Later after an enquiry, Digal’s parents identified the clothes of their dead son.

Meanwhile, Quick Action Team (QAT) Inspector Akash Rana has been transfered to Nayapalli PS, he has been replaced by Deepak Lenka.
