Cuttack: A notorious criminal and absconding accused in a loot incident in Gurudijhatia area was nabbed after police encounter in Choudwar area of Cuttack in the early hours of Monday.

The accused identified as Muna Dehury of Gundichapur village under Sadar police limits in Dhenkanal has sustained bullet injuries on his left leg and undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College Hospital. One 9 MM country made pistol, live ammunitions, two empty cartridges and motorcycle without number plate have been seized from his possession.

Police sources said, Muna was part of a gang of robbers who had shot Lala Lalit Singh near Nuapatna rice mill while looting cash and gold from him. Singh, who was going to Dhenkanal from Puri with his family when the incident took place, succumbed to gunshot injury at SCB Medical College and Hospital.

There are as many as 11 different cases of crime pending against Muna at various police stations in Cuttack and Dhenkanal districts.

Today morning, Choudwar police received an input about movement of Muna in Choudwar area and conducted raids to nab him. After noticing presence of police team, Muna reportedly opened fire at the cops. In retaliation, Choudwar inspector-in-charge who led the police team opened fire at the criminal. During the gun fight, accused Muna sustained injuries on his left leg while sub inspector Partha Beura was also sustained injuries.

On Sunday, Ajay Sahu alias Jitu was also apprehended by Choudwar police near Tangi-Kapilash road following an encounter.
