Bhubaneswar: A day after officials of the Excise department seized brown sugar worth Rs 38 lakh from Chintamaniswar and Haldipadia area in Bhubaneswar, the sleuths today seized 240 grams of the contraband item in Khurda and arrested two suspected peddlers.

Reports stated a joint team of the Cuttack Excise Intelligence and Khurda Excise departments conducted raids at different places in Khurda and seized the brown sugar which is estimated to be over Rs 25 lakh.

The accused have been identified as Rakesh Singh of Matha Sahi and Jagannath Behera of Beseli Sahi both in Khurda.

“The Excise officials have seized 107 and 177 grams of brown sugar from Rakesh and Jagannath, respectively,” stated Jagdish Chandra Samal, Central Excise Intelligence Inspector.

Yesterday, nearly 385 grams of brown sugar was seized following raids at Chintamaniswar and Haldipadia area in capital city Bhubaneswar.
