Balasore: Two tribal girls were allegedly raped by a person near Debgiri forests under Soro police limits in the district on Thursday. Following the incident, one of the victims attempted suicide and was hospitalised.

The incident came to light only after the victims lodged a complaint with Soro police.

As per reports, the accused Sashadhar Disa, a resident of Manatri village in Soro and a tractor driver, took the two tribal women to the forest and made them to consume alcohol forcibly. When one of them denied, Disa hit her on the head. Later, he allegedly raped the duo and threw them on road and fled.

One of the victims tried to commit suicide by consuming poison and was admitted to Soro hospital.

Meanwhile, the duo lodged a complaint following which police have started investigation into the incident. "We have sent the two women for medical tests. Efforts are on to nab the accused," said Inspector-In-Charge of Soro PS Kartik Chandra Mallik.
