Rourkela: Complying with the strict enforcement of regulations to stop the spread of Coronavirus, the district administration in Rourkela on Monday placed as many as 58 persons under quarantine.

As per reports, all the passengers including the driver and helper of a bus returned from Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh underwent health check-up at the Rourkela Government Hospital and were subsequently placed in quarantine at Chhend colony.

Sources said, all the passengers are residents of Bolangir and Sonepur districts and had gone to Vrindavan on a pilgrimage. However, they got stuck there after 21-day nationwide lockdown was enforced to contain the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Later, the Uttar Pradesh government arranged a bus for the stranded people following which all of them came to Odisha.

As they reached Rourkela, the district administration as a precautionary measure conducted their health check-up and later took them to the quarantine facilities at Chhend Colony.

The administration made arrangements for food and other basic amenities for the pilgrims. On the basis of the medical reports of the people, further course of action will be decided, the officials said.

It is worth mentioning here that the Orissa High Court on Sunday directed the Odisha government to take immediate measures to check movement of people returning from other states and stop them at the border itself.

The HC directed the State government to give direction to all bordering district Collectors and Superintendent of Police to make arrangement of stay, food and sanitation including medical check-up of all such persons in the bordering districts itself.
