Bhubaneswar: Odisha registered a whopping 101 Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, the highest single-day spike in the State till date, taking the total positive count to 538. With this, Odisha has pipped Kerala to be at the 16th spot in country's tally.
Of the new cases, Ganjam district reported maximum number of 52 cases today followed by Balasore (33), Jajpur (7), Sundergarh (7) and Keonjhar (2).
Leading the COVID chart in State, Ganjam’s coronavirus count has shot up to 210 while Balasore is next with 90 cases. Jajpur district currently has 71 positive cases, Khurda (50), Bhadrak (31), Sundergarh (23) and Angul has 15 cases.

According to the Health & Family Welfare department, the State has 419 active cases now. While 116 persons have been cured or discharged, three persons have succumbed to the disease.

It is to be noted that Odisha conducted a record number of 4699 RT-PCR tests yesterday, the highest tests till date in the State. The cumulative tests stand at 72756.

Meanwhile, sharing details of the two Covid-19 cases in Keonjhar, district Collector Ashish Thakre said the two patients aged 44 years and 23 years are among the migrants who had returned from Surat. While one of them was quarantined at a temporary medical centre (TMC) in Dhenka gram panchayat, another put in quarantine at Dhananjaypur TMC.

The district Collector said one of the patients has mild symptom while another was asymptomatic. Medical teams visited the TMCs for contract tracing and travel history of the two cases, he added.
Nilagiri in Balasore district too has emerged as a COVID hotbed. So far, 14 positive cases have been detected in the sub-division.

On Wednesday, Odisha surpassed the Covid-19 tally of Kerala which has 524 cases (as on 8 AM today) with 31 active cases, 489 recoveries and four deaths.
