Berhampur: In view of increasing trend of COVID-19 positives cases in Ganjam, the district administration has set up four more COVID Care Centres (CCC) with a total bed capacity of 470.

The Care Centres will be exclusively used for management of COVID-19 patients by isolating them from community, district collector Vijay Amruta Kulange said in a letter.

“In view of COVID-19 emergency situation and increasing trend of COVID-19 positives cases in the district, it is required to keep the COVID-19 patients away from the community in order to reduce the risk of person to person spread of infection,” the letter reads.

The four Care Centres have been set up at New SDH building, Hinjilicut with 100-bed capacity, Parala Maharaja Engineering College Hostel with 200 beds, Chhatrapur Science College with 70 beds and Secondary Training School Girls’ Hostel, Bhanjanagar with 100 bed capacity.

The COVID Care Centres will be manned by dedicated health care personnel who will be isolated after completion of their duty period and will be quarantined for another 14 days. It is mandatory for the hospital to adhere to strict infection control guidelines, use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by persons working in a Covid Care Centre (CCC) and other standard precautionary measures.

The district administration has also appointed Nodal Medical Officers, Nodal Administrative Officers and hospital managers for smooth management of the COVID Care Centres.

The Nodal Medical Officer will ensure all clinical management and overall day to day management of Covid Care Centre while the Nodal Administrative Officer will ensure Staff quarantine facility, fooding, logistics arrangement and will take care of all expenses for functioning of the centres.

Similarly, the main function of the Hospital Manager is to handle day to day administrative aspects of the centres including overall hospital management such food/diet for the patient/staff, ensuring cleanliness and hygiene of the hospital, bio-medical waste management, security arrangement, stay arrangement of doctors and other staffs by ensuring isolation facilities.

As far as the coronavirus cases are concerned, Ganjam district tops the chart in Odisha with 137 positive cases till May 11.
