Bhubaneswar: COVID-19 is fast spreading its tentacles in Odisha as 20 districts of the State have reported confirmed cases of coronavirus so far. The State reported 58 COVID-19 cases with Angul district reporting its maiden confirmed cases on Sunday.

As many as 13 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Angul district on Sunday. The total number of COVID-19 cases in Odisha now stands at 352 with 281 active cases, 68 recoveries, and three deaths.

Out of the 58 new COVID-19 cases, the highest 29 cases were reported in Ganjam, five cases in Balasore, and one from Mayurbhanj.

Technical spokesperson of Odisha Health Department, Jayanta Panda today said that COVID-19 positive cases are likely to rise further as people are returning to Odisha from several hotspot States like Maharashtra and Gujarat.

“Our approach is to register people who are returning from other States, test, isolate, and provide required treatment to them. Even though Odisha’s COVID-19 tally has reached 352 with three deaths, there is nothing to panic. At present, Odisha is now at the doorstep of Stage-III of COVID-19 pandemic. It will boost immunity of the community,” said Panda.

Panda further informed that due to the strong policy of the Health Department, over 3000 tests are being conducted per day in the State.

As per the State Health and Family Welfare Department, 20 districts are now affected by COVID-19 with the highest 118 cases being reported from Ganjam district which has seen a steep increase in its coronavirus tally due to migrants returning from Surat.

Apart from Ganjam, six other districts- Jajpur, Khurda, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Angul have reported maximum COVID-19 positive cases so far.

With 118 COVID-19 positive cases, Ganjam district now accounts for 33.5% of the total positive cases in the State, followed by Jajpur (15.6%) and Khurda (14.2%).

Out of the total 58 new COVID-19 cases reported on Sunday, 41 people are Surat returnees, 10 West Bengal returnees, five Karnataka returnees, one from Maharashtra and one positive case is a local case reported in Angul, as per the data shared by the Health and Family Welfare Department.
