The 30-share barometer, which shed 17.06 points in yesterday`s session, fell by another 106.95 points, or 0.55 per cent, to 19,477.36 in the first few minutes of trade today, with IT, metals, auto, consumer durables and banking stocks remaining under pressure.
In a similar manner, the wide-based National Stock Exchange Nifty index slid by 32.60 points, or 0.5 per cent, to 5,841.90 points.
Brokers said a weakening Asian trend in the wake of a lower close in the US market in yesterday`s trade, influenced the trading sentiment here.
Meanwhile, Hong Kong`s Hang Seng slipped by 1.08 per cent and Japan`s Nikkei fell by 1.28 per cent in early trade this morning.
In the US, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.21 per cent lower in the previous session.
