Washington: France`s Christine Lagarde and Mexico`s Agustin Carstens were Tuesday shortlisted to lead the International Monetary Fund, while Israel`s Central Bank Chief Stanley Fischer, a last minute entrant in the fray, was ruled out on age ground.

Lagarde, who has undertaken a massive campaign and who has the backing of Europe and the US appeared to be odds-on favourite for the new managing director which is to be announced by June 30.
