Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government has made registration of factories mandatory to ensure safety and welfare of the workers.
"To ensure safety and welfare of the workers, the registration of the factories has been made mandatory under Factories Act by the Central and state governments," an official spokesman said today.
According to the Factories Act, 1948, if any provision of this Act is violated, the occupier and manager of the factory shall each be guilty of an offense, punishable with imprisonment for a term up to two years and fine of up to Rs one lakh, the spokesman added.
He said all the factory owners, who have not registered their units till date, have been instructed to approach the office of the Inspector of Factories and Boilers, Kashmir, immediately for registration to avoid prosecution.
