As many as 28 wild boars, in search of food, fell into an isolated well located in a farmland in Bhagamunda village under Sadar forest range in Odisha’s Keonjhar district. The matter came to the fore after a few locals spotted the wild boars on Monday morning and informed the forest department officials.
Forest department officials claimed the boars had strayed into the agricultural field in search of food when they fell into the well. Thanks to the efforts of the forest department officials, at least 27 wild boars were finally saved. However, one of them died while being stuck in the abandoned well.
Meanwhile, local farmers expressed outrage and demanded forest officials to find a permanent solution to prevent wild boars from entering their agricultural fields.
“The boars had strayed into the village to feed on the paddy. However, they all fell into the well due to darkness. Luckily, there is no water in the well,” a local informed.
“We deployed a JCB and dug out the well properly so that the boars can be rescued safely. After the rescue operation, we will drive them into the forest,” said a local forest official.
