CLP India, which owns and operates a 655 MW gas power plant near Bharuch in Gujarat, has already obtained approval to expand this by 1,000 MW and is presently awaiting allocation of gas for the project, the official said.
"Our plan is to increase our wind energy portfolio by 200-300 MW every year over the next three-years. We are also mulling an entry into solar power in the next year or two," CLP India`s Managing Director, Rajiv Mishra, told PTI here.
The company today announced its decision to develop two new wind farms--in Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh--of 102.4 MW and 50.4 MW, respectively.
CLP has entered into agreements with major wind turbine-manufacturer, Enercon India, to develop the greenfield projects.
"With these two, our total wind portfolio will rise to close to 640 MW," Mishra said.
While he would not quantify the investment in the two projects, Mishra said that normally it costs between USD 1.1-1.3-million for a megawatt.
The company is also interested in solar power and could enter the segment going forward, Mishra said.
CLP India, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the CLP Group, a Hong Kong-listed company and one of the largest investor-owned power businesses in Asia, has a diversified and climate-friendly generation portfolio that covers renewable energy, supercritical coal-fired, and gas-fired generation, amounting to approximately 2,613.6 MW.
On its Gujarat gas power plant, he said that the company has already got approval to expand its capacity by 1,000 MW. "We are awaiting allocation of gas," he said, adding the investment here is likely to be around Rs 4,000-5,000-crore."
The company is also building a 1,320 MW supercritical coal-fired power project in Haryana which it had won through international competitive bidding in July 2008.
"Our plan is to build our renewable and gas power portfolio by expansions and in coal to go in for bidding. We will bid for the next ultra mega power project (UMPP)," he said.
The company is also interested in transmission line projects and would be bidding for the same going forward, he said.
